Happy LEON Day!?!?

Monday June 25, 2007
June 25th is LEON day. Have you ever heard of it? Me neither until a visitor, Cindy, shared it with me. LEON is NOEL spelled backwards. LEON day is the half-way mark until Christmas! It has been six months since Christmas and it is six months until Christmas. If nothing else, it is a great reason to start making all those home-made gifts and decorations so they might be done by Christmas!

We celebrate Leon Day every year here in Eastern North Carolina! There is a radion station that actually plays Christmas music all morning. I use this holiday to have a special Leon dinner (turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce) just like a Christmas. I also use this day to give my children a copy of their favorite Christmas movie so that they will have a nice selection for their home! We love it!!!

I learned about Leon Day when I moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1991. It was discussed on the local radio station, and a craft group that I am a part of try to celebrate each year in our own way on June 25th. I have a decoration box specifically for Leon Day. This Leon Day falls on Sunday, so this small craft group will be meeting at our home to celebrate Leon Day Eve! The decorations haven’t yet been determined, but the Christmas Tree (small one from the office) will be hung upside down, which is the tradition. This year’s menu is to be a summer feast–hot dogs as the main entree. Only 13 days to pull it all together for Leon Day Eve. So, getting ready for Leon Day will be just like getting ready for Christmas. We plan to make a Christmas ornament, too. So, am researching on the web including at about.com to see if I can get other ideas.

Happy Leon Day to all! Especially those who believe!

Leon Day is almost here so wanted you to know that we keep it alive and well at our home for a craft group I am a part of here in San Antonio TX (CONGRATULATIONS NBA 2007 WINNERS-SAN ANTONIO SPURS–their big parade is today, Father’s Day)

Menu will be hot dogs and possibly corn dogs. Bought a small tinsel type tree to hang upside down for the traditional Leon Day. The office tree this year must remain at the office so all our new employees can appreciate and learn about June 25th, which falls on Monday this year! So will get the office into decorating by starting on Friday as I am taking Monday off to get ready for the crafters–maybe for the next few years, I should take Leon Day as a holiday since it falls during a work week!! I continue to Google Leon Day and this comes up first for crafters. Thanks for letting the tradition continue.

I never heard of Leon Day until this morning (6/25). Some one heard it on the radio and called to let his mother know about it since it’s also her birthday! My good fortune that I answered the phone for her!

My family has recognized LEON for several years. It should be noted that the particular significance of this day is that your Chrismas decorations change from being up really really late to being up really really early!

I learned about Leon Day, June 25th, over 40 years ago when I read a paperback book about a family that went to Mars who celebrated the holiday. I wish I could remember the name of the book….

I’ve celebrated Leon Day ever since.

I have had the joy of “playing Santa for more than 20 years. I inherited my first suit from my dad. I grew up knowing about Leon day, but it has taken on a whole new meaning for me lately. Over the past several years I have grown out my hair and beard to make Santa “more real” I start the process on Leon day!! so by Christmas I truely do resemble him. “OH-OH-OH, happy Leon day”
