Geraldine, That is a tough one! Any blanket that is smooth and non-silky work work okay I guess… Do you know anyone who quilts? A quilt designed with signature blocks would work well. You can use permanent marker but I would buy fabric markers instead! Good luck.

I have been searching for years for something my grandmother and her sister use to do, they are both passed now and would never let anyone see how they did it.
They use to make these beautiful poodle dogs out of wire coat hangers and dry cleaner bags ( the bags use to come in all different colors back then)Since they never let anyone watch them none of the remaining family members know how, or were younger than me and have no idea what I am talking about.
PLEASE, tell me you know and that you have or can find the directions for me.
Thank you so very much!

(23) Sue says:

Does anyone know how to soften sculpy craft modeling clay? I bought a large brick and put it in a plastic bag and it still got quite stiff, any suggestions?

February 19, 2010 at 10:40 am
(24) familycrafts says:

Hi Sue,

One of the biggest job when working with Scupley clay is conditioning it so you ccan work with it. To condition your clay you simply work the clay with your hands. The warmth of your hands combined with the physical process manipulating the clay makes it softer and easier to work with. It is easiest to work with small pieces at a time…. Hope this helps!

(35) Laura says:

I’m not a crafty person, but I’m hoping that with some help I can make this work. I have a printed piece of paper that I would like to adhere to a nylon(?) zippered 3-ring binder. I’ve thought about transfer paper (printing and ironing onto surface), but I’m wondering if the heat would melt the binder. I’ve also thought of using an acrylic sealer to seal the piece of paper then using a spray adhesive to attach it to the binder, but I’m unsure if that would work. I’d like it to be as seamless as possible as I tend to pick at corners that stick up. Do you have any suggestions on the best method to use and/or product names? Thanks in advance.

August 23, 2010 at 9:52 pm
(36) familycrafts says:

Was the paper printed from an inkjet printer or ? If it was not printed on an inkjet printer and the ink on it will not run, you can try decoupaging it onto the binder. If you are afraid it will run, maybe you could attach it to the binder using clear packing tape or contact paper.

I will be serving 35 people for Christmas dinner and I am going to set out “flower pot bread”, which are individuals done in a flower pot. My question is, what can I do with the flower pot. I would like to have my guests keep it and I thought about painting or decorating the outside, but I am not sure if I can and also put it in the oven to cook.
Looking forward to any help you can offer.

September 20, 2010 at 11:32 am

I would do any decorating after the pot is done in the oven! Something as simple at tying a ribbon around the pot would be adorable!

(39) Charles says:

I am trying to find a couple of craft items that I enjoyed using as a child. One item was vials of colored paints that would float on top of a large container of water that had borax mixed into it. You would then dip items into the container and then remove it. The different colors of paint would adhere to the item dipped into the container. The designs were limitless. Another craft was cans of colored resins. You would make flower petal and leaf shapes using thin floral wire. You would then dip the shape into the resin and when you removed it, the resin would quickly dry and harden into a cellophane consistency. Again, the flower (and other) designs were limitless. If anyone knows where I can locate these two craft items, I would greatly appreciate any tips on where I can get them. Thanks.

I have a dried rose that I would like to make completely solid. I work at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and I would like it to wear in my hat. I tried Mod Podge Gloss spray on one and it made the petals in the inside stick together and not look as full as well as softened the rose. Can you please point me in the right direction? Thank you :)

July 21, 2011 at 10:58 am
(49) familycrafts says:

My first thought was to try dipping the dried rose in resin… This might be worth experimenting with, but it may have a similar effect as the mod podge you tried. Have you tried a spray flower fixative?
