Instructions: Mix up the paper mache' paste. Blow up balloon. Lay newspaper on table to keep your work area as clean as possible. When I mix paste, I usually sepparate it into smaller disposable containers. Dip heavy paper towels into paste, wringing off excess. Place over balloon letting each layer dry. I use about 3 layers. Then pop balloon. Using a sharp knife, cut an opening in the side of your Egg. Take out any reamining balloon fragments. Complete using another layer of paper mache' to cover the hole in the top where the knot was, and use to smooth the edges where you cut the hole. When dry you may paint, or use contruction paper to cover it with another layer of the paste/paper mixture. When paint, or final layer of covered paper is dry, fill with grass and trats just as you would any basket. I like making this project with my kids because you don't loose or break the baskets you are trying to keep all year for the next year, and they can design their egg to match them. We make these about 3 weeks before Easter for a decoration, then the bunny comes to fill them up the night before easter. - See a larger photo of this craft completed by Kathy Berg. - See a photo of a version of this craft completed by The Napier Family.
