Instructions to make bean bags to play fun games with. Great simple sewing project!
Materials Needed:
Fabric Scraps
Needle
Thread
Dried Beans
Instructions:
Any heavy-duty fabric can be used for this project. Cut out two squares for each bean bag you want to make. They should be the same size and approximately 6 inches wide. Lay the pieces on top of each other, right sides facing in. You want to match up the edges as well as possible.
Cut a piece of thread atleast a foot long and thread it onto the needle. Pull the thread through the needle eye and then tie the 2 ends together.
Start at any of the 4 corners and sew the edges together using a simple backstitch (see details below). Leave about an inch around the edge of your material. Sew 3 1/2 of the 4 sides together, threading more thread onto your needle if necessary.
To do a simple backstich, follow these directions and pictures:
Push your needle up through the material. (Unless otherwise directed, you should always pull the thread through the material until there is no slack left.)
Push the needle back down through the material about 1/4 to 1/2 inch behind where you just came up.
Push the needle up through the material again, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in front of where you came up the first time.
Push the needle back down through the material again, right next to where you came up the first time.
Push the needle up through the material, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in front of where you came up last time.
Repeat until you are done!
Once you have 3 1/2 sides sewn, turn your bean bag right side out. Stuff your bean bag about 3/4 of the way full so it looks like a little pillow. You do want to leave a little extra room inside so your bean bag does not rip open too easily - the beans need a little etxtra room to shift when thrown.
Fold in the rough edges at the opening and sew the last side closed in the same manner you sewed the rest of your bean bag. These last few stitches will be seen on the outside, but that is quite alright! Your bean bag will still work just fine.
