Materials Needed:
- (2)16" X 16" Squares of White Fleece or Felt
- 1 Sheet of Black Felt
- 1 Sheet of Orange Felt
- White Thread (or any color you wish)
- Sewing Needle
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Polyester Stuffing
Instructions:
This project is great to make for babies and toddlers. My 9-month old niece loves the tags on toys more than the toys themselves, so I came up with this idea. Just like making a no-sew fringe fleece blanket except you want to sew to keep all the stuffing in away from the little ones. Best of all, it's washable!
- Put the two pieces of white fleece or felt together.
- Lightly sketch an outline of a ghost on the fleece, leaving at least 2 inches around the outline to the edge of the fabric. The fabric with the outline is now the front side.
- Cut around the sketch, again leaving the 2 inches outside the outlined area.
- Cut 2 oval-shaped eyes from the black felt and sew on front of ghost. (I hand sewed this whole project and it only took an hour.)
- Lightly sketch the word "BOO" (or a pumpkin) on the orange felt and cut it out and sew on bottom half of ghost. (I use the blanket stitch for the "applique" of the eyes and extras to make it more fun.)
- Now line up the front and back of the ghost and sew around the outline and leave a space open to stuff. Don't over stuff the ghost, it should be soft.
- Complete the sewing of the ghost.
- Now, take your scissors and cut out half-inch wide fringe on the extra 2 inches of fabric you left around the ghost. Cut both front and back at the same time leaving at least a 1/4" before the sewn line.
- Once all the fringe is cut. Tie each pair of fringe from front to back.
Your ghost should now be ready to give. Other ideas for fleece toys... Make small toys by cutting strips of bright colored fleece and tying them into each other for a "kush" ball effect.
