Decorated Storage Containers

By Sherri Osborn, About.com

Angie Jane explains how to decorate plain stoarage bins using twine and other supplies.

Materials Needed:

  • Craft Glue
  • Jewel Glue
  • Storage Containers
  • Childrens Scissors or Nail Clippers
  • Yarn or Twine

Instructions:
Martha Stewart says that if you use the original storage container, you are trash. I heard this on the radio, and immediately got out my crafter's tools, in order to remedy this situation.

First, carefully spread the jewel glue over the container. Then, carefully wrap the twine over the container, in a circular fashion, so as to cover the entire container. Have each circle of yarn touch the last round.(Do not be a perfectionist, small shells or beads can be glued on later.) Then, do the next third of the container. Then, the final third. Clip off the twine or yarn. Carefully tuck in the end under the last few layers of yarn wrap.

Allow this to dry for twenty four hours.

Other containers that may be used include the coffee delights (International House, Folgers, etc), or oatmeal containers.

I love the oatmeal containers or frozen juice concentrate containers, as they are made of cardboard. This means that ordinary school glue can be used to wrap the container, and, there need be only 6-8 hours of drying time.
