How to Make a Float Using a Shoe Box

From , former About.com Guide

Have your family work together to make a miniature version of a parade float out of a shoe box; or, if your family is a little more on the competitive side, have each member make their own float and see who makes the best one.

  • Age Guideline: 5 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 60 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Flip your box upside down and paint it. You can use whatever colors you like, but, if you are making them for a specific occasion, you might want to choose colors that go along with it, For example, if you are making a float for Independence Day use red, white, and blue; use green paint for a St. Patrick's Day float; or use green, purple, and gold for a Mardi Gras float. If you want to use the lid, get creative by gluing it into a different position on the shoe box bottom. Let any paint and glue dry.

Gather together miscellaneous supplies to decorate your float. A few ideas for supplies you can use are crepe or tissue paper, beads, foil, a small action figure or doll, ribbon, or glitter. Use your imagination to create an original float.
