Children in Stockings Craft
Instructions to make a unique Christmas stocking, submitted by Shirley

Materials Needed:
  • 18 x 12 inch designed print fabric
  • 18 x 12 inch colored fabric (wine or olive-green)
  • 20 x 12 inch white or skin-color fabric
  • Christmas-decorated ribbon 2" wide (long enough for the front top edge of the stocking)
  • stuffing
  • thread and needle (optional)
  • all purpose adhesive ( UHU )
  • yarn for the hair (yellow - light brown or brown )
  • one pair of wiggly eyes
  • a two inches long piece of velcro
  • markers or pieces of yarn
  • blush
  • ribbon (for girls piggy tails or braids)
Instructions:
First, trace a stocking shape on the designed fabric and on the colored fabric (wine can be used for girls and olive green for boys or both pieces of the stocking can be made in the same fabric). Now, cut out. Next, put the two pieces together inside parts facing out. Now, sew or glue together along the edges except for the top (which is the opening). Once ready, fold about one inch from the opening and sew or glue again. Finally, turn the stocking inside-out. You should have the designed print fabric on the front with the top edges of the opening facing the inside. On the front top edge glue or sew the Christmas decorated ribbon. That's the stocking!

Now for the children doll:
First, fold the white or skin- color fabric in two, leaving the inside out. Next, trace the shape of the head with neck. (Just a circle with a thick neck) And trace two hands with wrists, without fingers or thumb (it's simpler). Now, cut out. Make sure you cut the fabric keeping it folded. You can use pins so it won't move. Next, sew or glue along the edges leaving the neck of the head open and the wrists of the hands opened, too. Now, turn them inside-out, and fill them with the stuffing.(Make them soft but not too full).

You are now ready to work on the head. Begin with the hair. Use the yarn and decide if you'll have short boy's hair or long girl's hair. Now, fold the yarn several times, keeping the same length, until it's as thick as you want the hair (or piggy-tails). Tie in the middle and cut the edges.Glue or sew the middle part of the hair to the top center of the head. Arrange the hair as desired (make piggy tails or braids) and glue or sew where needed so it will look nice. Now, place the wiggly eyes where you want them and glue them carefully. Next, either use markers to draw nose and mouth, or use a small piece of yarn to form nose and mouth and glue them there. Last, use the blush to color the cheeks ( do it lightly) and you can use the marker to give it freckles.

Finally, sew or glue the neck to the inside part of the stocking on the colored fabric. And sew or glue the wrists to the inside part of the stocking on the designed fabric.(Arrange them so they seem to be to the sides of the head). Fold the hands foward ang glue them to the front of the stocking so they won't move. You can use a piece of velcro to close the stocking ( it may open because of the hands' weight revealing the doll's neck). Done!
