Instructions for making a globe using paper mache' techniques - submitted by Meghan.

Materials Needed:

  • Large, Round Balloon
  • Newspaper
  • Paper Mache Paste
  • Blue and Green Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • String
Instructions:
Blow up the balloon and tie tightly. Cut or rip strips of newspaper and dip them into the paper mache paste (be sure to drench the paper). Allow the children to get dirty, and apply several layers of paper mache to the balloons in order to make sure it holds.

Let the paper mached balloons dry overnight. Tie string to the tied end of the balloon in a loop so that it can be hung up.

Show the children a globe, explaining all the different continents and oceans. From then on, it's up to them. Let them paint the balloon with the green and blue paint, making different continents and oceans. Let them dry over night and then hang them up and enjoy.
