There are many symbols and traditions we associate with Thanksgiving. The most popular of these seem to be related to turkeys! Can you imagine a Thanksgiving dinner without turkey? Enjoy these fun turkey facts and crafts, and have a great Thanksgiving!

  • Wild turkeys are black with red and green shine to their feathers. There is a tannish coloration on their wings and tail feathers, and they have black and white markings on their wing feathers.

  • When wild turkeys get scared they can fly for about a mile as fast as a car usually drives, about 55 miles per hour.

  • Benjamin Franklin, among others, wanted the turkey to be the United States national bird instead of the bald eagle!

  • Only Tom (male) turkeys gobble; the Hen (female) makes more of a clicking noise.
