Morning Glory Walls
Make a living wall in your garden using morning glories - submitted by Liz.

Materials Needed:

  • Morning glory seeds in desired color
  • String
  • Anchor(see below)
Instructions:
First, you need to select a location for your wall. It should be a sunny spot, getting at least 10 hours of sunlight per day. Make sure the soil is not to rocky (potting soil will do fine).

Next, plant your garden. Pots will work, though they may not be wide enough for your purposes. In that case, just plant the seeds 3-4 inches apart.

Now, the anchor. You need something like a garden stake, unless your plants are growing up on railings, which they can just climb. You'll need to wind the string between the stakeish thing and the top of whatever you want it to grow up to.

The hard part. Waiting. Your plants could take anywhere between 1-6 weeks to sprout. The plants just seem to get wider for about 2 weeks, than all the sudden, they'll shoot up a creeper which will grow 1-3 inches a day. It will wind up the string, sprouting leaves as it grows. It takes about 2 weeks for 3 plants to cover a square foot.

Your wall will enventually sprout flowers, which will multiply as well. This whole thing could take up to a month and a half. Or more. :)
