Bumble Bee Costume

By Sherri Osborn, About.com

Lorrie Tannahill tells how you can create this easy costume.

Materials Needed:

  • Yellow and Black fleece material (how much determined by size)
  • Elastic
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • 2 Black knee high nylons
  • 1 pair black nylons
Instructions:
Measure shoulder width of child or adult and cut the fleece in strips that length PLUS an additional 12". Strips should be approx. 5" wide.

Sew strips of black and yellow alternately (number of rows will depend on size/length of costume). Place to the side and repeat making a second square.

Lay the squares on top of one another (seam side out) and sew down the sides, leaving room for the arms, and across the top, leaving room for the head. Sew a row of elastic around the bottom so it will gather around the hips.

Make a hat out of the remaining felt, or use a black touque to place the antenna's in. Use the knee highs for the arms and the nylongs for the legs. Finish up with some black eye-liner painted on the nose.

This project took me about 30 minutes from start to finish and I do not know how to sew. If you can sew a straight line, you can do this costume.
