By Judy Sadler (Kids Can Press) Review by Sherri Osborn
Okay, I will admit it, I was especially attracted to this book because
I love beads! Always have, always will... Aren't they just the most
fascinating things, with the variety of shapes and colors you have to
choose from! I have always loved beads and found many ways to use them
in crafts.
If you love beads, or have always just wanted a reason to use them, then
this book should interest you! This book has many ideas for making
jewelry out of beads. Heck, I know it is a kids' book, but most grown-up
type people who have ever wanted to try their hand at beading would love
it too (I was almost tempted to keep this book for myself)!
This book starts out explaining various supplies you will use. It
explains the different kinds of beads. Do you know the difference
between seed beads, bugle beads, or E beads? It gives helpful hints
on the best kind of thread and needles to use. You also get various
tips for tools to use, ways to store beads, and more.
This book shares specific patterns for many necklaces, bracelets,
and earrings; plus, it gives you helpful suggestions to creating
your own designs. It has simple projects, like a coil bracelet
and headpin earrings, and more difficult projects, like a delicate
Daisy-Chain Bracelet or tassel earrings. How about detailed
instructions for making a bracelet out of safety pins? You will
find one here! It also has quite a few pages devoted to making
a bead loom and creating your own loom jewelry.
Make your own fashion statement! Make jewelry for gifts
for those special people! Okay, like I said, I might be a
little bias on this subject; but, if you ever wanted to try
your hand at making jewelry using beads, then you really should
give this book a try.
