You can make several of these easy butterflies and use them to decorate your entire house for St. Valentine's Day or to celebrate spring. All you need is a craft stick, several hearts cut out of paper, and a few basic craft supplies.

  • Age Guideline: 3 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Cut 2 hearts out or red paper, about as tall as the craft stick. Trim off the bottom of each heart. Lay the 2 hearts down so the bottom edges are slightly overlapping. Glue the hearts together on the bottom edges. These will be the butterfly wings.

Use a marker to make eyes and a mouth on the crafts stick. You can also color the stick with the marker. Cut two 2-inch pieces from a chenille stem. Glue them on the back of the craft stick to be the butterfly's antenna.

When you have the craft stick decorate how you want, glue it onto the hearts, on the section where you glue the two ends together. Now you can decorate the wings if you like! You can cut more hearts out of paper to decorate the wings or use other craft supplies like glitter or sequins. You can also write a Saint Valentine's Day message on the wings of the butterfly.
