My older daughter wore the same dress that she wore when she was a devil. We only purchased a few yards of black vinyl. She wanted to be a vampire, but all the costumes she gravitated toward that we used for inspiration had names like 'Vampirella' or Vampire goddess or Vampiress. So we converted the devil dress by cutting the vinyl into bat-shaped wings. Using electrical tape, we bound the edges & pinned the winged cape to the dress covering the flamed collar. I cut a wide strip and used fabric glue to fuse it, then threaded a ribbon through it as a corset. We had the teeth and the wig in our box. The fact that it was a snarled mess actually worked in our favor. We looped black ponytail holders over her wrists to attach the cape there so when her arms were raised the bat shape showed. She loved it. She was beautiful and scary at the same time! The vinyl came to around $6, and everything else was stuff we had." ~ K. Sexton
