1, 2, 3 I Can Make Prints

The author, Irene Luxbacher, explains in simple terms how to create wonderful, printed pictures. This book uses insects as a theme to show kids and parents alike how they can use paint and different objects to transform a plain piece of paper into fabulous works of art. It is a great way to introduce any child to printmaking!

As I said about the other books in this series from Kids Can Press, this book is a great addition to your arts and crafts library. Kids will enjoy flipping through the pages with their parents and learning all about how to make prints and the materials used to print. Not only will you find engaging illustrations on each page but also colorful photographs of finished projects and the supplies you need to use. There is also a glossary of print related terms for kids to learn, complete with pictures.

This book teaches how to make prints using fingers, sponges, a piece of paper, foam, and even modeling clay. It also explains how you can make a printing plate using craft foam and cardboard. The final project in the book combines all of the techniques taught to create a beautiful butterfly. One of my favorite features in this book and the other books in the Starting Art series is the page especially for parents and teachers which offers suggestions for more related projects and tips for making the kids' experience with printing a positive one.
