The Bottom Line

The author, Irene Luxbacher, explains in simple terms how sculpting is simply making a 'piece of art that has more than one side to look at." Guide Review - 123 I Can Sculpt!

This book is a great addition to your arts and crafts book shelf. This is not simply a how-to book parents can use to show their kids how to sculpt, it is a book written for parents to read along with their kids. Not only is each sculpting project wonderfully illustrated with amusing drawings and colorful photographs, but the material list offered in the front of the book is too. There is also a glossary of sculpting related terms for kids to learn.

This book teaches kids how they can use their imagination and simple items they probably have laying around the house to sculpt wonderful works of art. The book shares easy-to-understand directions to show them how to create a toothy crocodile, a sunbathing sea lion, a silly snake, a flock of colorful birds, a soft lamb, a giant giraffe, and a dinosaur. While this book sticks with an animal theme, it also has suggestions for parents and kids to craft beyond the animal theme.

This is one of several books in the Starting Art series from Kids Can Press. The Starting Art series introduces art concepts such as color, form and texture, reinforced and put into practice through the creative process. Each book includes a visual glossary of key art terms and a note to parents and teachers on how to ensure a good art experience every time.
