The Bottom Line

I bought this book because I was enchanted by amigurumi critters, but I was convinced I wouldn't be able to complete any of the projects in it. I was amazed by how easy they were! The author does a great job in explaining how to make these Amigurumi creatures, and in no time I was crocheting an adorable monkey and you can too!

Guide Review - Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet

As some one who has only ever crocheted afghans and other square or rectangular items, I was pretty intimidated by the thought of crocheting anything that was round, let alone stuffed animals. I must have been in the mood to push myself out of my comfort zone when I bought this book about how to make amigurumi, and I am glad I did.

While I have been crocheting for years, by my skill level I would consider myself a beginner. I pretty much know how to to a single crochet stitch and a double crochet stitch. I also am not good at following along with lengthy descriptions and patterns when it comes to crafting. Both of these considered, I was skeptical that I would be able to understand the projects in this book let alone with following along. I am happy to say how wrong I was!

I sat down with the book, a couple of balls of yarn, and a crochet hook and in no time had created an adorable monkey. The directions were clear, and easy to follow and the colored photos of all of the projects completed by the author were inspiring. In the beginning of the book, she did a wonderful job explaining each stitch and even includes illustrations, so if I ever did feel stuck, I simply flipped to those pages and continued on my way.

The nice thing is that for most of the projects you use the same basic steps. Once you get the hang of it, you can cruise along with little trouble. The only thing not shown was how to make the beginning slip knot, which I always forget how to do... That is how little I crochet! Before I started making my monkey, I did do a few practice runs with crocheting in the round, which is what you do to make the animals. That is one of the nice things about crocheting though; you can stitch and then rip out as much as you like without wasting any yarn.

So, what are you waiting for, let's crochet!
