Elegant Candle Holder

These are lovely table top decorations and are fancy enough to be used at parties or even something as formal as a wedding reception. As with any flame, do not leave a candle burning in this candle holder unattended.

  • Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

  • 34 Craft Sticks
  • Wax Paper
  • Flat Embellishment Items (Such as Stickers, Wood Shapes, Paper Cut Outs)
  • Double-Sided Adhesive
  • Votive Candle in Holder
  • Craft Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:
Cut out four pieces of wax paper into at least 8" x 8" squares. They can be bigger, but not smaller. Lay these on your work surface.

Squeeze some glue onto one side of four of the craft sticks. Lay these around the edge of one of the pieces of wax paper to form a square. The ends should be touching but should not overlap. Repeat this with 12 more craft sticks and the wax paper pieces so you end up with 4 squares.

You can now add any embellishments you like. Use the double-sided adhesive to stick the items to the wax paper. If you are using stickers you can stick the adhesive side of the sticker onto the wax paper, however please keep in mind that any directional objects, such as letters and numbers, should be backwards as they will be on the inside of the candle holder so you will only see the shadow. Make sure you use a dry adhesive so that the wax paper does not bubble!

Once any glue is dry, trim the wax paper around the craft sticks so there is no extra hanging over the edges. Now lay these, design side down, onto your work surface. Glue craft sticks onto the wax paper on top of the craft sticks you glued on first so the wax paper edges are sandwiched between two craft sticks.

Run a bead of glue down the edge of one of the craft sticks on one of your squares. Stand it on your work surface and press the glue onto the craft stick edge of one of the other squares. Repeat this with the other squares until you have all four glued together to form a square box-like candle holder. To make the candle holder more stable, glue the last two craft sticks at an angle around the bottom edges. Let the glue dry.

You can now light the candle and place the candle holder over the candle surface. watch how beautiful the light is flickering around the shadows of the embellishment objects you attached to the wax paper.
