Measure and Cut

Actually, before you measure and cut, you might want to take a moment and use a seam ripper to remove and labels and the loop, if applicable, from the back side of the tie.

Now, you need to decide how tall you want your purse/wallet to be. If it will be for a cell phone of Ipod, measure the device. A good size for a change purse is about 3 inches tall.

The measurement you will want to take will be double the height you want your finished purse to be, plus 1. For example, if I want my purse to be 3 inches tall when it is done, I want to measure my tie 7-inches (3 + 3 + 1 = 7).

On the back side of the tie, start measuring from the area that the arrows in the photo are pointing to and mark your cutting line. Cut on the line.

Now we can start sewing...
