Necktie Purse/Wallet

Start Sewing

The first thing you want to sew is the edge you just cut.

First, set the tie, back-side-up, on your work surface. Fold up about 1-inch of the cut edge and pin to secure. Using about a 1/4-inch seam allowance, stitch along the edge where indicated by the arrow and white dashed line in the photo. Carefully remove the pins as you sew. Do not sew over them and this can damage your machine or break the pins.

If your tie has a thicker lining in it, you might want to remove it before you sew. This will help cut down on the bulk of the finished wallet, but will make it a little flimsier. I left in the thick lining, but, once the purse was done, wished I would have taken it out. A thicker lining though, may serve as padding to protect a cell phone or an Ipod.

Now we can sew the sides together...
