- Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
- Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- 36" of 14 or 16 Gauge Wire
- Pair of Pantyhose, Any Color
- 1" Elastic or Ribbon
- Duct Tape
- Needle and Thread
- Craft Glue
- Scissors
Instructions:
Twist the ends of the wire together and form it into a figure 8, making sure both sides are even and the twisted ends are in the center. Twist the center of the figure 8 a few times to secure. Wrap duct tape around the center a few times to secure even more and also to cover any pointy ends.
Cut the legs off of the pantyhose. Slide one of the pantyhose legs onto each loop of your figure eight. Pull them tight in the center and tie the ends together into a bow. You can now shape the wings so they look more like a butterflies’, or however you like. To get the pantyhose to follow the shape the wire outline, you can attach the pantyhose to the wire using a needle and thread.
Now you can decorate the wings however you like! Add some color using permanent markers or dimensional paint and then embellish with rhinestones, glitter, or anything else you desire.
Cut two pieces of elastic about 30" long. Tie them around the center of the wings (where you used the duct tape) so they form two big loops. You should adjust the size of these loops so they side over the wing wearer's shoulders like a backpack and the wings fit snuggly.
