- Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
- Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- Felt
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Button (Shank Button Works Best)
- Large Eye Needle (For Use With Yarn)
- Crochet Hook
Instructions:
Use a 3" x 5" card as a pattern. Fold a piece of felt on half and use the 3" x 5" card as a guide to cut out two pieces. Cell phones do come in different sizes so you may have to adjust the size of the pouch to fit your cell phone.
Cut a piece of yarn at least a yard long. Thread one end of the yarn into the eye of the needle and sew overlapping stitches down one side, across bottom, and up other side to attach the two pieces of felt together to make your pouch. You may want to put the same decorative stitch along both of the edges at the top. Before you tie off your yarn, stitch the button to one of the top corners of the pouch. Once all your stitching is done, tie both ends of the yarn and trim.
Use another piece of yarn and crochet a chain of about 30 stitches, depending on needle size and how tight stitches are. You can find directions to do this here. At end of chain, leave your crochet hook in the last loop and count back 6 or 7 stitches and attach the end to the chain using a slip stitch to form a loop. You may have to adjust the size of your loop to fit your button.
Attach the non-looped end to the corner of the pouch that you sewed the button to. You can thread the yarn tail onto the needle and stitch the chain onto the pouch.
You can now use your new cell phone pouch. Why not make a matching pouch to collect your spare change in!
