- Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
- Time Required: 30 minutes
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- 1/4 Yard of Fleece
- Plain Paper
- Pencil
- Straight Pins
- Needle/Sewing Machine and Thread
- Scissors
Instructions:
Put a piece of paper down on your work surface; lay your hand on top of it, fingers together. Starting about at least an inch below your wrist, trace around your hand to create a mitten pattern. Cut out your pattern, staying about an inch outside of the line you drew to give you enough room for a seem allowance.
Use your pattern to cut out 4 pieces of fleece to make your mittens. If your fleece has a right and wrong side, make sure you cut out 2 fleece mitten shapes with the thumb on the right side and 2 fleece mitten shapes with the thumb on the left side.
Pin two of the mitten pieces together, right sides together if applicable, lining up all edges evenly. Repeat for the other set of mitten pieces.
Use your needle and thread and a straight stitch, or a sewing machine, to sew your mitten edges together. Begin at the wrist and sew around all edges, leaving the wrist edge open.
Turn your mittens right side out and they are ready to wear. You may need to trim the wrist edge of the mitten so they are even. You can also cut the wrist edge a little longer and then fold it up to make a cuff. Embellish your mittens.
