  • Time Required: 60 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Theresa explains, "Stack boxes to approximate a tombstone shape -- be creative! In my photo from bottom to top: there is a regular sized paper box, a file folder box, an octagonal box topped with another file folder box, a small square box, and a cross made from leftover cardboard.

Tape all of the boxes together, making sure that no ends are exposed and that all boxes are sealed shut. Tape decorative ribbon (if desired) along the edges of the file folder boxes to give a layered look to the tombstone.

Using a plastic or paper plate, pour several tablespoons of black and off-white paint together. Dip paintbrush into black/off-white paint, but don't mix together--this give a marbled look to the paint. You may need to use a couple of coats of paint to achieve the desired effect.

Add decorations to the tombstone to lend a creepy quality--spider webbing, crows, dead flowers, bones...whatever you like! For an extra special effect, use glitter in "veins" of marble for a realistic look."
