Big Blue Train Story Sack

Laura Porter
This story sack ideas was submitted by Laura Porter, the About.com Guide to London Travel. She made it for her 2-year-old daughter and her 2- and 3-year-old friends.

She started out by making a tote bag. She printed a picture of the book jacket on an iron-on transfer sheet and ironed-it onto the tote bag.

She included a copy of the book, of course, and also felt animals depicting animals from the book. She made them all by hand using felt scraps. She made a hen, a polar bear, a chimpanzee, a camel, a dog, a cat, a cow, a leopard.

Laura said, "It took a lot of time but was fun. Initially, I was concerned with using the right colors but then I remembered kids don’t care if a cat is blue so I had more fun using scraps of felt."
