She started out by making a tote bag. She printed a picture of the book jacket on an iron-on transfer sheet and ironed-it onto the tote bag.
She included a copy of the book along with a few props:
- A pair of 'jingle jangle socks' – cheap brightly colored socks with bells sewn on the toes
- The Emperor’s scarf – a small hand-knitted scarf
- A felt fish to be a 'sky fish'
- Cocktail umbrellas to be the 'umbrella trees'
