Juice Can Lid Memory Game

You can easily create your own memory game using lids removed from frozen juice cans. If your family doesn't drink much juice, you can use other lids, little discs cut from cardboard, or even index cards. One of the nice things about this game is that you can make a dozen pieces or so to start with but then continue to add pieces for as long as you have the game!

Materials Needed:

  • Juice Can Lids
  • Stickers or Pictures from Magazines/Catalogs or Printed From Your Computer
  • Dimensional Paint
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:
Start out by making sure your juice can lids are clean and dry. You will need an even number of lids. If the game is for a very young child, start with maybe 10 or 12; for older kids, the more lids you have the more challenging it will be.

Gather together your pairs of pictures of items that go together. These can be identical stickers, die-cuts, pictures cut from magazines, or pictures printed from your computer. It is easiest if you pick a theme for your game, such as matching colors, matching written numbers to dots, matching lower and upper case letters, matching baby animals to their moms, and so on.

Glue your pictures onto one side of each juice can lid. Make sure you use the same side of the lids for each game piece. Let dry. For a nice finishing touch, trace around the edges of the pictures using dimensional paint. Let the paint dry completely.

To Play: This game is played like the classic Concentration game. It can be played with one or several people. You lay out all the game pieces, face down. Each player takes turns turning over 2 pieces at a time. If the pictures match, the player keeps those pieces and gets another turn. If they do not match, the pieces are turned face down again and the next player takes their turn. Continue until all the game pieces are claimed. The winner of the game is the person who collects to most pairs.
