Materials Needed:
- Plate
- Chalkboard Brush-On Paint (compare prices)
- Small Piece of Felt (to use as an eraser)
- Chalk (compare prices)
- Masking Tape (optional)
- Paint Brush
- Newspaper
Instructions:
Start out by making sure your plate is clean and dust free. My plate had a defined edge so that is what I used as a guideline for painting. If your plate does not have an edge, find a round object and trace around it on the plate. At this point, you can use the tape to mask off the edges of the plate if you like. I found it was easiest to just carefully paint around the edges than to try to tape the circle. Of course, this would be different if your plate had straight edges.Use a fine paintbrush or a foam brush to apply thin layers of chalkboard paint to the center of the plate. Let each layer dry completely before you add the next. Let the chalkboard paint cure for as long as the package recommends.
Before you use the plate for the first time, you should rub the side of a stick of chalk on the paint and the wipe it off. Your chalkboard plate is now ready to use. How will you use it?
