Masking Tape

By Sherri Osborn, About.com

Definition: Masking tape is a type of adhesive tape made of easy-to-tear paper that is backed with a relatively weak adhesive. It is used often in painting, to mask off areas that shouldn't be painted. The weak adhesive allows the tape to be removed easily.
