- Age Guideline: 3 Years and Up
- Time Required: 20 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- Large paper grocery bags
- Newspaper
- Paper plates
- Colorful straws
- Crayons, Markers, or Paint
- Cellophane Tape and/or Craft Glue
- Ribbon
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
Instructions:
Place the folded bag on a flat surface with the bottom of the bag facing away from you. Cut up from the center of the open edge to the middle of the bottom of the bag. On the bottom, cut a round hole large enough for your neck. On each side of the bag and near where you cut the neck hole, cut out the arm holes so the bag will sit on your shoulder. Adults may need to help younger children cut out the vest.
If you want, you can turn the bag inside out, so you can work on a plain brown surface. This is a bit difficult and if you don't want to turn it inside out, you can cover the outside writing with your supplies. If you use paint, cover the are with newspaper to avoid paint on the furniture or floor.
Imagine you are a visitor from outer space. Decorate your vest with your supplies any way you wish. Tape ribbons, straws, craft sticks, etc... on it all over. Use your imagination to be as more creative as you can be!
You can add to your costume by creating a mask out of a paper plate. Decorate your mask, punch out two (or more) holes for the eyes and two wholes on the sides of the mask to be able to put it up on your face!
