Decoupage Organizer

This idea was suggested by several readers as part of this Make-It-Over craft challenge. There were suggestions for creating desktop, dresser, and other organizers made using empty almond cans and decoupage techniques.

  • Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 20 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
You can make an organizer using either fancy paper or fabric scraps. Cut or tear the paper or fabric into small pieces, about about 1" x 1". I made the bank pictured here by using scrap fabric and decoupage techniques.

Use decoupage medium to attach the fabric or paper to the entire can. Learn how to decoupage here. Once the can is covered with fabric, cover it with a thin layer of decoupage medium. Let it dry completely and then cover with another layer of decoupage medium.

Give the can plenty of time to dry. Once dry, cut a piece of ribbon and tie it around the can as a finishing touch. You can also use other items to embellish your almond can organizer, such as buttons, charms, or stickers.
