Follow these directions for using clay to make a pumpkin-shaped pin to wear.

  • Age Guideline: 5 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Make or buy orange clay. I have several clay recipes you can browse through. Pick you favorite and mix up a batch of orange clay.

Make a ball of orange clay about 3/4- to 1-inch big. Use a cup or anything else with a flat side to flatten your clay ball until it is about 1/4-inch thick. Use the toothpick to very lightly draw lines on your pumpkin.

Once you are done drawing your lines with the toothpick, break about a 1/2-inch piece off the end of the toothpick. Stick this in the top of the pumpkin, pointy-side in, to be the stem. Put your pumpkin aside until the clay dries. This can take several hours or even a day... Check out the directions for drying in the recipe you choose to use.

Once the clay is dry, use the felt, craft foam, or paper and glue to make a face on your pumpkin. Use glue to attach the pin backing to your pumpkin and set it aside until it is completely dry.
