"My name is Erica Gass, I am from North Hollywood, California and this is a picture of my craft pumpkin boy and girl that I made for our office pumpkin contest.

Here is the Supply List:

  • 2 Gourd pumpkins
  • 2 Styrofoam or paper cups
  • 4 Wooden coffee stirrers
  • White felt
  • 6 Black pom-poms
  • 2 Colors of yarn
  • 2 Colors of fabric
  • Any decorative button
  • Piece of leather
  • Decorative ribbon
  • Glue

For both pumpkins, I cut the yarn into strands and glued it to the top of each one. I glued a decorative ribbon on top of the girl's hair. I cut 4 white felt circles for the eyes, glued them to the gourds, then glued the 4 black pom-poms onto them for the eyes. I then glued 2 black pom-poms on for the nose.

I choose a blue piece of fabric for the girl's outfit. I cut a simple rounded shape for a dress and wrapped it around a styrofoam cup. I sewed it by hand with one seam. You can use hot glue also, just make sure the glue does not melt the styrofoam cup. I created 2 slits on each side of the dress for the arms. I sewed a decorative button on the front and used a doll's necklace for the collar.

I used the same blue fabric for the boy's pants. I cut a simple pant shape, sewed them together, and I was able to slide them on the bottom of a styrofoam cup. I used red fabric, cut a large square, and wrapped it around the cup for the shirt. I sewed one seam in the back and cut two slits on the sides for the arms. I used some of the blue material and made the tie. I cut a small piece of leather strap from a broken purse and glued it to the body of the boy to create a belt.

I used coffee stirrers for the arms and poked them thru the styrofoam cups, placed the gourds on top if the 'cup bodies' and added some doll accessories that I found around the house."

After you carve or decorate your pumpkin, take a moment to snap a picture of it and then submit it. Then, you can take some time and browse through my other Halloween articles and find many Halloween crafts, games, recipes, and other activities.
