When knitting the 'ends' in, just push the tags of fabric to the back. If joining in the middle of a row, dampen the fabric slightly then roll each end together, knit both pieces for two stitches at least.
My next project will be to create stitches onto the cuff and continue into a warm pair of mittens. I won't do socks, they get holes in the heels!
