How to Make a Fun Spider Mobile

By Sherri Osborn, About.com

Make a fun Halloween mobile craft using beads, chenille stems, and a few other supplies.

  • Age Guideline: 6 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Cut each black chenille stem into four equal pieces. Cut 4 pieces of thread or fishing line, each about 2 feet long. Holding four chenille stem pieces and the end of one piece of thread and push them all through the hole in one of the black beads. Center the bead on the chenille stem pieces, and pull through about 2 inches of the thread. Tie the thread onto the bead and trim any extra thread. Spread and bend the chenille stem pieces in the bead so they look like 8 spider legs. Repeat this to make 3 more spiders.

Tie your spiders onto the twig so all four hang at different lengths. Cut a 2 foot long piece of thread and tie each end of the string to each end of the twig to make your hanger. Use cotton batting spread to look web-like, or simply use package spider web, and drape it around the twig and even on the thread going down toward the spiders. Play with it a bit until you get a realistic spider looking effect that you like!
