If you want to make some small spiders that are too adorable to be scary, check out these fun button spiders. Made using a button, some embroidery floss, and a couple wiggle eyes, these spiders won't scare anyone.

  • Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed to Make a Button Spider:

Instructions:

Start out by cutting four pieces of embroidery floss. I cut mine each about 8-inches long. They do not have to be even, but you want to cut them extra long!

Thread all four piece of embroidery floss up through one of the button holes and then down through the other. Pull them so they are centered. Tie them all together on the under side of the button. Trim the ends of the embroidery thread so they are all even. Spread them out so they look like 8 legs.

Put two small dabs of glue along the edge of the front of the button and gently press the two wiggle eyes onto the glue. Your spider is now done.

You can make several of these spiders to place on a buffet table for a Halloween dinner decoration or attach one to a spider web, like the hot glue gun spider web I shared in this tutorial. You can also glue a magnet to the back of it and stick it on a fridge or locker, or affix it onto a pin backing and wear it. There are so many possibilities.
