Jayn's Mosaic Garden Stepping Stone

Photo of a Home-Made Garden Stepping Stone

From Sherri Osborn, About.com

See a picture of a home-made garden stepping stone made by Jayn Lando. It features a beautiful mosaic design.
Jayn explains how she made this stepping stone... "We use a hard black plastic mold and do it like an upside down cake - vaseline the sides and about 1/4-inch onto the bottom, place contact paper cut to fit the mold sticky side up on the bottom, then press the glass pieces onto the contact paper with the side you want to show on the stone face down. We use the Quikcrete but use the sand mix (just as inexpensive as the regular) which is the feel of sand and without the pebbles. Fill the mold halfway, tap the air bubbles out, put in chicken wire (rather than screening for more stability) fill the rest of the way and tap again. We usually use the glass that we use for stained glass - some patterns specifically cut pieces as this picture is but also a lot of mosaics from scrap glass either just to fill the mold or also to form a particular design or picture."

I hope you enjoy making your own garden stepping stone and then send in a photo to have it featured here.
