Rock Candy Craft

Sherri Osborn
Use rocks, paint, and your own imagination to make your own rock candy. It looks good enough to eat.

  • Age Guideline: 6 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Find a rock the shape of whatever kind of candy you want to make. I used a flat, round rock to make my peppermint candy. Wash your rock and dry it well.

Paint your candy the desired color. I started out by painting my entire rock white. Once that paint was dry I painted on red stripes.

To make the candy wrapper, cut off all four side edges of the sandwich bag. This will leave you with 2 squares of plastic, which is enough for two rock candies.

Lay the candy in the center along one edge of one of the plastic squares. Cut two pieces of ribbon, each about 8-inches long. Roll the candy in the plastic and gather the plastic hanging on each end of the rock candy and tie it with the ribbon. Trim the ribbon as desired.
