A visitor named Tricia explains how you can make fun stilts by recycling coffee cans. Have every member of the family make a set and then have a race.

  • Age Guideline: 5 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 20 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

  • 2 Coffee Cans
  • Lightweight Rope
  • Scissors
  • Nail
  • Hammer

Instructions:
Using the hammer and nail, make a hole on each side of the can about an inch up from the bottom of the can and directly across from each other. Tricia suggests working the nail around to enlarge the hole. Trim the rope to the desired length. The rope length depends on the height of the child. You can then thread the rope through the holes and tie a large knot at each end to secure it.

The kids stand with one foot on each can and use the cans as stilts.
