Materials Needed:
- Construction Paper or Card Stock
- Crayons or Markers
- Magazines or Printed Images
- Glue Stick
- Scissors
Instructions:
You can make these Valentine's Day cards as simple or as complex as you like. This would make a fun family project because all ages can participate. Make it a family game by challenging everyone to come up with the silliest pun.Start out by folding a piece of construction paper or card stock in half to make a card shape. This will give you a card that is approximately 5 1/2-inches by 8-inches. If you want a smaller card, first cut your piece of construction paper or card stock in half and then fold it. This will give you two cards that are each about 5 1/2-inches by 4-inches.
Now, page through magazines or search for different images online that will be used on the from of your Valentine's Day card. This is where your imagination comes into play because you want to find pictures that you can make puns out of. This might seem hard at first but the more you make the easier it gets!
For example, you can cut out a picture of a bumble bee and write "Bee Mine" or even "Bee My Honey". Here are a few pun ideas for Valentine's Day to help jump start your creativity:
- Picture of a Candy - "You're Sweet Valentine" or "Be My Sweety, Valentine"
- Car - "Valentine, you drive me crazy"
- Light Bulb or Candle - "You Light Up My Life Valentine"
- Broom - "You sweep me off my feet"
- Shoe - "You Can Walk All Over Me Valentine"
- Mouth - "You Make Me Smile Valentine"
- Hand - "You Have Me Wrapped Around Your Little Finger Valentine"
- Eye - "I Only Have Eyes For You Valentine"
- Band Aid - "I’m stuck on you Valentine"
- Peanut - "I Am Nuts Over You Valentine"
- Puppy - "Dog-on it, Be My Valentine!"
- Apple - "Valentine, You are the apple of my eye"
- Cake - "You take the cake Valentine"
- Bear - "You are beary sweet"
- Pie - "Be my sweatie pie"
- Soup - "Valentine, you’re souper!"
- Bird - "Will you be my tweat heart?"
Keep these in mind while you look through your magazines and other images and I bet you can think of plenty more. Please take a moment to share your Valentine's Day pun ideas on the Family Crafts Forum.
Now you can construct your cards by gluing the picture on the front of your folded paper. You can also dress up the front of the card a little bit buy decorating it with small hearts cut out of colored paper, stickers, or anything else you have on hand. You can also draw designs using crayons or markers. You can write your pun on the front of the card near the picture or you can write it inside the card.
