Pre-teens, Teens

Approximate Time Required to Complete This Project

One hour or more

Materials Needed

Powder drink container

Coffee filters

Colored markers

Scissors

Elmer's glue

Water

Tea light

Instructions

1. Take powder drink containers (usually Crystal Lite) and take off the label.

2. Take coffee filters and colored markers... two colors will do (yellow and red or pink) alternating or on top of each other to get the effect of the tie dye. You can also take food colors and in a bowl of water, experiment with drops of water with drops of red dye to make orange. Design your filters the way you want them to look. Lay them on newspaper till dry.

3. When the coffee filters are dry from the dye, take Elmer's glue and adhere the first filter lengthwise on one side of the powder drink container.

4. Do the same for the second filter. You will have some empty spaces on top and bottom on both sides. Be sure you dye enough filters so that you can cut off scraps from other filters to fill in the spaces.

5. When the container is covered, add a flickering battery operated tea light.

Tips and Tricks

  • At night it looks so cozy on top of a desk or end table while your reading a favorite book.
