Your Friends will be Green with Envy

Name of Project

St. Pat's Day Colorful Blooms

Ages This Project is Suitable For

This project could be suitable for teens and pre-teens.

Approximate Time Required to Complete This Project

A few hours to half a day depending on how many you want to make.

Materials Needed

Coffee filters

Scissors

Water based colored markers

Pipe cleaners

Pony beads

water

Towels to clean the area

Instructions

Take 3 coffee filters on top of each other. Decide how to decorate each one with the colored markers. Take one at a time and start decorate with the marker. Just fold in half, then in fourth and dip slightly the tip in water. The water will seep through the whole filter creating amazing results. Wring out the excess water in the bowl. You can lay the colored filter on top of a plain filter and roll both of them so the other filter will look the same. I do different colors on each filter to make different patterns.

Lay out the filters till they are dry, it wont take long...about 1/2 hour. Gather all the filters, take 3 at a time in your hand...fold in half, then in fourths, then eighths till it resembles a tortilla. Snip slightly the corner of all the filters. Bend a pipe cleaner at the halfway point and slip a pony bead thru it. Thread the double pipe cleaner through all 3 holes of the coffee filters. When the pipe cleaner goes through, twist once... then make a loop to make a leave. You will have 3 layers of a beautiful flower.

Tips and Tricks

  • I used different shades of green markers because it was for St. Patrick's Day. Next time I will use all my markers to create flowers for spring. Let your imagination be your guide.
