Name of Project

Ages This Project is Suitable For

8 and up with adult assistance

Approximate Time Required to Complete This Project

3 hours

Materials Needed

Old vinyl records

Oven safe bowl or small pot

spray paint

floral wire

beads if desired

Instructions

Preheat oven to 200 F. Place vinyl record on top of a small pot or oven-safe bowl on top of a baking sheet. Watch the record as it begins to soften after 2 or 3 minutes. Remove baking sheet with bowl and record and quickly press record to shape around the warm bowl. Use oven mitts and work quickly. If it hardens before you are satisfied, put it back in the oven to soften and try again.

Spray paint with desired colors and attach floral wire or a straightened wire clothes hanger.

Note: For center pistol and stamen feature, I halved a round foam fishing bobber and glued tapioca beads to it, followed by spray paint. Next, I threaded a handful of single-beaded cut floral wires through the center hole of the bobber.

Tips and Tricks

  • This is a fun family project and a great way to upcycle old records.
