Vegetable Prints
Try your hand at printmaking by using vegetables.

Materials Needed:

  • Vegetables
  • Paper Towels
  • Styrofoam Plate, Meat Tray, or Other Shallow Dish
  • Construction Paper
  • Paint
Instructions:
Use a variety of vegetables to make fun prints. You can cut a bell pepper in half and make shamrocks! One popular vegetable used in printing is a potato.

Start out by drawing a small pattern that would fit on hald a potato. Cut a potato in half, and transfer the design onto the cut part of the potato. Cut out the potato around the pattern so you have a raised design.

Fold a paper towel into fourths and lay it on the bottom of the styrofoam plate, etc. Pour paint into the center of the paper towel to make it into a stamp pad.

Dip the cut side of the potato into the paint. Dab it around on the paper towel to wipe off excess paint, and then press it onto the paper.

Make a whole collection of pictures this way! You can also use other vegetables to make prints. How about trying these prints using fabric paint and make a T-shirt, towel, etc!
