Guide Rating -

The full title of this book is Celebrate: An Anti-Bias Guide to Enjoying Holidays. It is filled with strategies for implementing culturally and developmentally appropriate holiday activities. It is a guide for anyone working in an early childhood education setting.

In some cases, talking with the children about holidays can be a sensitive matter. You need to address diversity, avoid stereotypes, and handle the religious aspects of holidays. You should also be sensitive to the needs of families that celebrate differently or not at all. You should try to accomplish all of this while making the holiday activities meaningful for the children.

This book is a guide to help you do all of those things and more. There are chapters to help you develop a holiday policy, selecting holidays, addressing stereotypes, and planning activities.

While you will find ideas on these pages for celebrating, it is not a traditional holiday book full of crafts and activities. Instead, it teaches you how to plan you activities, crafts, and parties. It is a great resource for anyone who works with young children.
