By Kathy Ross (Millbrook Press) Review by Sherri Osborn
Crafts for Kids Who Are Wild About the Wild by has many great craft ideas.
Most of the projects are made from supplies you probably have laying
around your house, and many use recycled objects like paper bags, paper
plates, cardboard rolls, etc.
I liked the durable hardcover, and the spiral bound pages made flipping
through it very easy. The illustrations in the book, done by Sharon Lane
Holm, made it very easy to follow along with each craft project. The book
has 172 pages full of unique craft ideas broken down by category. The
categories include dinosaurs, oceans, polar life, rainforests, insects,
deserts, and reptiles.
I was impressed with the unique craft ideas presented in this book, and
the creative use of materials. For example, there is a project to make
an angelfish wall hanging using old neckties! Another interesting craft
in this book is the idea to make a lady bug necklace out of bottle caps
and nail polish. This is just a small sampling of what this book has to
offer.
Kathy Ross' experience as a teacher and the director of a nursery school
really show through in her book. I think this book will be thoroughly
enjoyed by kids of all ages, and even some adults! . The creativeness
of the projects was exciting, and I had a hard time getting this book
away from my kids long enough to read it. It was refreshing, after so
many years of doing crafts with kids, to find so many unique ideas. We
will definitely be trying many of these projects and reading more books
from this author.
