As usual, Kathy Ross does a great job guiding the kids through every
craft project introduced in this book. If the children still need more
details, each project also includes comprehensive illustrations done
by Vicky Enright, including pictures of each supply needed to complete
the project. I believe kids should be able to easily follow along and
complete the projects with little or no adult help.
Many of the usual Winter themes are covered in this book. There are
projects that center around a snowy theme, such as a Snowman
Pin, a Bird in the Snow Table Decoration, and a Lace Snowflake. These
projects, and all of the other projects in this book, use materials
you probably have laying around the house. For example, the Snowman
Pin is made using a peanut and the Bird Table Decoration uses a plastic
cup and a packing peanut. This is recycling at it's best!
If you are looking for a craft idea for Winter holidays, this book can
help you out. There are craft ideas for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.
Other typical Winter holidays are also included in this book. Kathy shares
some ideas for crafts to help you celelbrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day,
Groundhogs Day, Valentines Day, President's Day, and a few others.
You will also find a special little treat at the end of this book. For
those of us who yearn for Spring by mid Januaury, we are not forgotten.
The last project in this book gives you directions for making a Sprouting
Pet. This little guy, made from panty hose, will help keep you company
through those last cold days of Winter and give you a daily reminder that
Spring is on it's way.
This book provides many fresh craft ideas that make great use out of
items you might normally throw away. By reading this book you will
appreciate Kathy Ross' creativity and her experience as a teacher and
preschool director. With 29 interesting craft projects presented
in this book, deciding which one to start with was the hardest part!
