How to Make an Airplane Using Styrofoam Trays or Plates

Learn how to make a fun airplane by recycling styrofoam meat trays or plates.

  • Age Guideline: 5 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 20 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Download the airplane pattern below or create your own. Trace the pattern onto the styrofoam tray or plate. Use a utility knife or scissors to cut the airplane wing and body shapes out of the styrofoam.

Color both pieces using permanent markers. Let the marker dry and then slide the wing section into the plane body section where the pattern shows. If necessary, you can secure the wings in place with a little bit of cellophane tape.
