Plastic Bottle Planter Craft

Submitted by Debbie
Two visitors, Debbie and Leann71, shared their ideas for transforming a plastic drink bottle into a fun planter.

  • Age Guideline: 2 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 20 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

  • Plastic Drink Bottle
  • Potting Soil
  • Plant Seeds
  • Items to Embellish (See below)
  • Utility Knife

Instructions:
Start off by removing any labels and washing and drying the plastic bottle. Cut the top off of the bottle using a utility knife. Recycle the top of the bottle as you will only use the bottom for this project. (Note from Sherri: Once cut, the edge might be sharp so consider covering the top edge with some masking tape.)

Now you can decorate the bottle. Leann71 suggests using stickers to decorate the outside of the bottle planter. Debbie had her children decorate their bottle planters by gluing on small pieces of tissue paper.

Once decorate, you can put a layer of pebbles in the bottom of the bottle planter and then fill it with potting soil. Plant the seeds, keep it watered, and watch it grow!
